HOURS OF WORK  24 hour shifts, 0700 hrs until 0700 hrs the following day. Rotating over a 28 day period averaging 42 hrs a week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or academic equivalent.
  • NFPA 1001 - Fire Fighter I & II Certified from an accredited institution; or Fire Department (with either Proof of Pro Board Seal or IFSAC).
  • Successful Completion of the (OFAI) Ontario Fire Administration-Candidate Testing Program Stage 1 and 2
    • Completion of the Ontario Firefighter Fitness Testing and/or York University Firefighter Fitness Assessment may be considered as comparable
  • Valid and current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Possess a valid and unrestricted Ontario class “D” drivers license with a “Z” air brake endorsement
  • A drivers abstract will be required at the conditional offer stage and must be dated within 30 days
  • Possess a satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Be able to understand and communicate clearly in English under stressful conditions, both oral and written
  • The ability to attain certifications within 18 months from the date a conditional offer of employment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Post secondary education
  • NFPA Operations or Technician level certificates in one or more relevant programs.
  • Trade apprenticeship or certification
  • Completion of OFAI Swim Test (as verified by possession of a current and valid certificate)
  • Successful Completion of the (OFAI) Ontario Fire Administration-Candidate Testing Program Stage 3
  • Multi-lingual skills (ability to communicate in other languages)
  • Knowledge of Brampton and its community
  • Other emergency service experience

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to adapt to situations quickly;
  • Ability to complete Swim to Survive certification during training;
  • Maintain physical fitness to handle the sustained, intense, physical effort often required to perform duties

  • Commitment to personal and professional development and in continuing training and education through ongoing learning;
  • Demonstrates initiative & well-being of self & others, in accordance to operating standards & procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences;

  • Ability to work in a team environment;
